Jama v kamnolomu, Slovenia

The spring cave Jama v kamnolomu lies in the southeastern Slovenia, right at the border with Croatia. It is located next to the Kolpa River near the town of Vinica. It was first explored in 1967 by cavers from the Črnomelj Caving Club. It has two entrances, which were artificially opened during the exploitation of the quarry above the spring. Two narrow entrance tunnels lead to a tunnel with an active water flow, the length of which is about 100 m. The shallow channel of the underground stream ends with a siphon. The walls above the stream channel were formed by water erosion and display typical scallop patterns. The underground stream flowing through Jama v kamnolomu is home to a diverse fauna of snails and crustaceans.
